Card Cowboy

Originally made for a game jam and released on Itch for free, Card Cowboy has been given an updated version with full voice acting, extended gameplay, and some extras, for a small price on Steam. I’d been meaning to play the free version but didn’t get round to it until this new release and thought what the hey, I’ll pay up.

It’s simple as taking your monthly bath. Move to a new location, listen to the event and react by playing a card. Your starting hand is a horse, lasso, and whiskey. Over time more cards are picked up and some are spent. You can use anything anywhere and get a bunch of funny and weird responses. It’s amazing how much you can do with a DEAD HORSE.

The objective is to get revenge on the cowboy who ‘wooed your mom, killed your dad, and kicked your dog.’ It’s not a difficult game but make enough mistakes and your health will drop to zero and earn you a tombstone. Being so quick to play and having some replay value this is no biggie. Locations are randomised with each new game.

For a quick diversion one evening it’s a fun game. I think there is lots of scope to add more events, cards and descriptions to Card Cowboy as there is some repetition even in a single game. I’d recommend trying out the free version and if you really enjoy it and want to support the dev do a full playthrough on the paid Steam version.

Available from Itch (free version) and Steam.
