Side scrolling platformers are one of my comfy gaming places. Even if I’m crap at the game, it’s an environment I want to explore and advance through. It epitomises gaming to me, so Gravity Circuit was an obvious purchase.
Long story short. It’s very good and offers a challenge, at least to an average gamer. Pros will probably have few problems with this, but it’s enjoyable regardless.
Once into the game proper there are 8 missions. I found the first few harder as I was getting used to the controls and had no upgrades. Then it felt like I breezed through the next levels and bosses until the last couple of missions increased the difficulty. On top of that there is a big multipart finale that gets properly tough with small moving platforms, having to jump into hazards, checkpoints further apart, and plenty of hook shots.

I mention the last one because out of all the controls it’s only the hook shot that I didn’t fully gel with. In some games I love it, others hate it. Here I was always a bit unsure as I had trouble hitting the right direction at the right time consistently. I think it’s largely a me thing. That just made the double jump upgrade essential for me. Probably the most valuable upgrade regardless.
There are 3 passive upgrade slots and 4 slots for special weapons. Lots of different play-styles possible. Of course you have to earn the resources to buy upgrades. The most fun way is rescuing people who are often in secret locations in each mission.

I had a good time with this, There were some frustrating moments and swearing during the last few sections because it is hard to finish. The last boss is a battle that demands accuracy. Having to fight through 5 or 6 health bars, at one point against a shield.
As you can see Gravity Circuit has gorgeous artwork, with sound and music to match. There are some basic difficulty options. It’s a lighthearted action adventure story. Solid game all round.
Available from GOG, Steam, Epic, and console stores.
